Shadow Finance Minister — scrutiny of state finances

As Shadow Minister for Finance (Jan 2025+), holds a key accountability role over Victoria's $180+ billion gross debt — the largest of any Australian state. Despite this critical portfolio, concrete alternative fiscal frameworks, detailed budget-reply analyses, or published policy papers from Vallence's office have been limited in public visibility. Vallence has held shadow portfolios covering environment, climate change, youth affairs, equality, industry, manufacturing, innovation, medical research, digital economy, finance, jobs, skills, trade, and investment. This breadth of shadow responsibility — 13+ portfolio areas across 7 years — suggests either versatility or a lack of depth in any single area. As an opposition MP, legislative delivery is inherently limited, but scrutiny effectiveness (questions on notice, committee work, media engagement, policy papers, private members' bills) is the relevant metric. No major public controversies in 7+ years is notable but also raises the question of whether scrutiny has been sufficiently robust or whether she has simply avoided making waves.

Yarra Ranges Shire Council — electorate overlap

The Evelyn electorate sits almost entirely within the Shire of Yarra Ranges council area.
