Donations Dashboard
Political donations from companies that also hold government contracts.
What it shows
- Headline stats: total contractor donations across all disclosed years, number of donor companies, parties receiving funds, ALP vs Liberal split.
- Stacked bar chart: contractor donations by party, year by year.
- Line chart: donation totals over time.
- Data table: each contractor with total donated, split by party, and a "hedging ratio" (donations to both sides as a proportion).
How to read it
The table is sortable. Click any contractor name for a full profile showing which projects they hold and their complete donation history.
The hedging ratio is a quick diagnostic: - Near 1.0 — donor gives to both sides roughly equally (defensive posture). - Near 0 — donor is partisan. - Missing — single-side donor.
Data sources
- AEC Annual Financial Disclosure Returns — the definitive source for federal political donations.
- VEC — state-level disclosures.
- Company-to-contractor matching uses normalised name resolution (trading name, legal name, ABN where available).
Caveats
- Donations are legal. Showing a contractor's donation next to a contract is not an allegation. It is a pattern.
- AEC disclosure thresholds mean many smaller donations do not appear.
- Disclosures lag by up to 18 months.
- Party names are rolled up ("ALP", "Australian Labor Party (VIC)", etc. → ALP).
- In-kind donations reported as cash-equivalent where disclosed.
