Documentation

Welcome to the Victorian Accountability Dashboard user guide.

This site tracks every major Victorian government infrastructure project, council, contractor, political donation, and grant we can get public data on. These docs explain what each page shows, where the numbers come from, and what they can and can't tell you.

Where to start

  • New here? Read Getting Started for a 5-minute tour.
  • Confused by a term? Check the Glossary for plain-language definitions of TEI, RAG, drift, hedging ratio, and more.
  • Want to know how we sourced a number? See Methodology and Data Sources.
  • Building something with the data? The API Guide shows you how.
  • Concerned about accuracy? Caveats & Limits is honest about what the data does and doesn't prove.

Per-page guides

Every dashboard page has its own reference doc explaining the charts, tables, and underlying data. Use the sidebar to jump to any page — start with Dashboard, Cost Drift, and Donations.

Accessible / text-only versions

Every dashboard page also has a plain-language narrative summary — useful if charts don't load, if you're using a screen reader, or if you want to read the page as a story rather than a set of visualisations. These summaries are structured so they can double as short-form video scripts.

Independence

This project is not affiliated with any political party or government entity. Every number links back to an official public source: Budget Paper 4, VAGO reports, DTF statements, AEC donation disclosures, VLGGC council returns, and FOI releases. If you spot an error, open an issue on GitHub.
